Gerald Allan Thein, 70, of Okoboji, Iowa, passed away on December 18, 2020, at Dougherty Hospice Home in Sioux Falls, S.D. A celebration of life is pending for the summer of 2021 in Okoboji.
Gerry was born February 10, 1950, in Winona to Leo and Margaret (Conner) Thein. Upon graduation from high school, Gerry enlisted in the Navy. After serving his country in Vietnam, he worked in various manufacturing jobs. In 1978, Gerry met Denise Kyhl and the couple wed in the Summer of 1979. They lived in Kiester, Minn.; Guymon, Okla.; and then settled into the lakes area.
Gerry had a passion for woodworking. He often spent his free time hunting, fishing, or riding his motorcycle. Gerry will be remembered for his quick wit, great sense of humor, unyielding love for family and friends, and that wry, mischievous grin.
Gerry is survived by his wife, Denise; three sons, Shawn (Angie) Kyhl, Spencer (Jessica), and Brady (Kerri); five grandchildren, Tyler, Megan, and Madison Kyhl, Henry and Stella Thein; three brothers, Nick, Rod, and Bob; two sisters, Eileen and Sharon Lawrence; a sister-in-law, Jan (Duane) Thompson; and many extended family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Judy; and a brother-in-law, Greg Lawrence.
