Winona Police 

Wednesday, August 12

•    At 9:15 a.m. a 75-year-old Winona woman was transported to the hospital for the treatment of injuries after she was reportedly struck by a vehicle on Vila Street and Gilmore Avenue.

•    At 3:55 p.m. officers arrested Karl John Matson, 37, of Winona, and referred him to the county attorney for a potential charge of driving after cancellation inimical to public safety on the 800 block of East Lake Boulevard. 

•    At 9:21 p.m. officers ticketed Leighton Elizabeth Wegener, 20, of Winona, with theft by shoplifting at Target. 

Thursday, August 13

•    At 12:36 a.m. officers referred Sarah Rose Davis, 39, of Winona, to the county attorney for a potential charge of fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance. Officers reportedly found 0.6 grams of a substance that tested positive for methamphetamine, as well as five pills and two hypodermic needles, in a vehicle on Garvin Heights. 

•    At 2:06 a.m. officers arrested Jacob Scott Mahto, 22, of Winona, and referred him to the county attorney for a potential charge of third-degree driving while intoxicated. Officers initially pulled him over for not stopping at a stop sign on Second and Center streets, according to the report. A breath test reportedly measured his blood-alcohol content at 0.17 percent. 

•    At 4:18 p.m. officers arrested Irene Renee Burns, 30, of Winona, and referred her to the county attorney for potential charges of second-degree assault and fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance. Burns reportedly hit someone in the arm with a stick that had nails on its end, leaving marks and a puncture wound on the person’s arm, on the 500 block of East Fifth Street. According to the report, 0.6 grams of cocaine were also found in her purse. 

Sunday, August 16

•    At 12:03 a.m. officers cited Elijah Stewart Heckert, 22, of St. Paul, Minn., with public urination on Second and Main Street. 

•    At 7:56 a.m. officers arrested Janna Marie Chandler, 46, of Winona, and referred her to the county attorney for potential charges of fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance and having no insurance on Fifth and Ben streets. Officers reportedly found 1.72 grams of methamphetamine between Chandler’s clothing, a vehicle and her purse. 

Monday, August 17

•    At 7:47 a.m. officers received a report that a moped was stolen on the 950 block of East Broadway. 

•    At 3:45 p.m. officers received a report that an orange moped and a blue moped were stolen on the 200 block of East Eighth Street. 

•    At 8:27 p.m. officers arrested Jeremy Wayne Polus, 45, of Winona, on a warrant and referred him to the county attorney for a potential charge of fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance. According to the report, officers found 0.2 grams of a substance that tested positive for methamphetamine in Polus’ backpack while arresting him on a warrant on Broadway and Cummings Street. 

 

Winona County 

Thursday, August 13

•    At 2:17 a.m. deputies arrested a 19-year-old Winona man on suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance on Braeburn Road and Highway 43. Blood-test results are pending, according to the results. 

•    At 11:33 a.m. deputies arrested Andre Maurice Chamblis, 37, of Winona, on a warrant and referred him to the county attorney for a potential charge of fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance after ecstasy and THC cartridges were reportedly found on his person.     

Friday, August 14

•    At 12:43 a.m. deputies arrested Michael Sage Nugent, 21, of Ocean City, N.J., and referred him to the county attorney for a potential charge of misdemeanor driving while intoxicated on Highway 43 and Honey Locust Lane. A breath test reportedly measured his blood-alcohol content at 0.12 percent. 

•    At 5:05 a.m. deputies arrested a 56-year-old Winona man on suspicion of driving while intoxicated on I-90 near Lewiston and St. Charles. Blood-test results are pending, according to the report. 

Sunday, August 16

•    At 1:12 a.m. deputies arrested a juvenile female from Winona on suspicion of driving under the influenced of a controlled substance on Broadway and Carimona Street. Potential charges are pending blood-test results. 

•    At 9:49 p.m. a 57-year-old La Crosse, Wis., woman was involved in a single-vehicle crash on the 29,000 block of County Road 19. Potential charges are pending blood-test results.
