Strand, Virginia R.


Virginia R. Strand, 88, Burnsville, Minn., and a lifetime resident of Minnesota, passed away, on Monday, December 24, 2018, at the Ebenezer Ridges Geriatric Care Center, Burnsville, Minn.

Virginia was born on December 15, 1930, in Winona, Minn., to George and Violet (Nelson) Pavek. Virginia graduated from Winona Senior High School in 1949. She married Harley A. Strand in June 1957, while Harley was enlisted in the United States Army, and they later divorced in 1962. Virginia was employed by Lake Center Switch (located in Winona, Minn.) for many years until she retired. While raising her three children they attended Calvary Bible Church.

Virginia enjoyed being a loving mother of three children, a grandmother of 10 and a great-grandmother of nine. Her favorite activities included painting, working at her bench creating and fixing different things. She enjoyed making Christmas cookies and candies. She shared a love for her many furry friends over the years, especially “Heidi,” her first dog and “Silky,” her last.

Virginia R. Strand will be forever missed by her family. She is survived by her three children, Timothy Strand, Colleen (Peter) Bambenek, Cheryl Patzner; 10 grandchildren, (Timothy’s child) Jeffrey (Casey) Strand, (Colleen’s children) Kathleen (Lesley) Clickner, Tanya Bambenek, Crystal (Mathew) Volker, Samantha Bambenek and Jonathan (Danica) Bambenek, (Cheryl’s children) Jessie Patzner, Heather Patzner, Shawn Patzner and Amber Patzner; siblings, Robert Pavek, Deloris Corey (deceased), Donald (Penny) Pavek, and Audrey Holien; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, George and Violet Pavek; ex-husband, Harley Strand; sister, Deloris Corey; and her nephews, Steve Corey, Gregory Corey.

A memorial gamily gathering will be held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, January 6, at the American Legion, 302 East Sarnia Street, Winona, Minn., 55987.
