Winona residents invited to first-time homebuyer open house

The city of Winona, in collaboration with Wells Fargo Home Mortgage, Three Rivers Community Action, and Minnesota Housing is hosting a first-time homebuyer open house on Saturday, March 2, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on the third floor of city hall, 207 Lafayette Street, Winona.

In this free session, participants will learn from experts about the homebuying process and discover ways to make homeownership affordable and achievable.

“The goal of the open house is to educate and put hardworking Winonans on the path to homeownership, thus strengthening our neighborhoods,” said Community Development Specialist Nick Larson.

Bridget Schoonover from Wells Fargo will discuss navigating the mortgage process and understanding and improving credit. Speakers from Minnesota Housing and Three Rivers Community Action will share information about affordable loan programs and how to access downpayment and closing cost assistance. Participants will also have access to homebuyer education and financial counseling resources, along with a question and answer session.

“At Minnesota Housing, we want to help more people achieve the dream of homeownership with our affordable loan programs,” said Minnesota Housing Commissioner Jennifer Ho. “This event will be a great place for Winona families to start the path to buying a home.”

The event is free and open to the public. People of all stages in the homebuying process, whether just starting to save for a downpayment or already on the home search are encouraged to attend.
