Add value to your dairy

Are you looking for creative ways to add value to your dairy? The University of Minnesota Extension will hold a workshop for dairy farms that will provide ideas and tips on value-added options. The workshop will be held on December 5 from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the St. Charles City Hall, 830 Whitewater Avenue.

Jennifer Wagner-Lahr of Ag Utilization Research Institute (AURI) will share results of value-added dairy research and direct-to-consumer projects AURI has carried out. Brad Heins, Extension, will discuss the unique milk quality characteristics of grass-fed and organic dairy management systems and marketing opportunities. Finally, representatives from CannonBelles Cheese of Cannon Falls will share how they started and developed into a successful company.

Doors will open at 10:30 a.m. and the program starts at 11 a.m. Lunch will be provided and is sponsored by the Winona County Farm Bureau. The fee for the program is $10 and can be paid the day of the event with cash or check.

For meal-planning purposes, please pre-register by December 2. To do so, please visit or call the Winona County Extension office at 507-457-6440.
