The late Jim Eddy organized and promoted WATFK for years, and remained committed to helping all families celebrate the holidays. This year’s drive is in his memory.
The 2019 program of the Winona Area Toys for Kids (WATFK) organization is currently underway, with toy collection running through December 6. Collection barrels have been placed at more than 70 participating businesses in Winona and the surrounding area. WATFK is a nonprofit organization that assists families by providing toys for their children during the holiday season. A community-driven charity, toys and monetary donations are collected at those donation barrels placed throughout area cities and businesses.
Recipient families then visit the “Toy Store” on Saturday, December 14, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Tandeski Center, where they select age-appropriate gifts for their children, to deliver in time for the holiday. No financial verification is needed to be a recipient, all organizers ask is that guardians bring identification for themselves and their child/ren.
This year’s program is particularly special to the WATFK organization, as it’s dedicated to founding member and friend, the late Jim Eddy of Winona, who passed away earlier this year. For decades, Eddy was crucial to the success and sustainability of WATFK, and remained firmly committed to keeping all locally-raised funds within the community. Eddy is greatly missed, but the organization strives to make him proud and continue his legacy by bringing joy to children in the community.
