I’m the mother of a child with special needs. I’m also a certified nursing assistant for vulnerable adults and a direct support professional for mental health patients. Our communities cannot count on Senator Miller. In 2019, Miller voted in favor of the original Senate Health and Human Services Omnibus bill, which included a $100 million cut to the Child Care Assistance Program and would have resulted in thousands of Minnesotans with disabilities losing their personal care attendant services and being denied waiver services. An earlier Republican proposal would have gone even further to cut the Child Care Assistance Program entirely and put enrollment caps on medical assistance waivers. Senate Republican leadership pushed this legislation by making sensational allegations of fraud, even though the Office of the Legislative Auditor could not substantiate the Republican claims. Miller has used his role as Senate President to throw up party barriers and blame others. And who suffers the consequences? The most vulnerable in our communities. We don’t need his lip service any longer, and we certainly don’t need his social media photo ops. We need someone who keeps their promises. I’m backing Sarah Kruger for Minnesota Senate because our communities can count on her.
