The kindness of strangers

From: Ruth Badciong

Last year “Kindness Changes Everything” signs were present in yards across our community. Members of my family and I have experienced many acts of kindness already this spring from community members who were otherwise strangers, and I wanted to publicly thank these Good Samaritans who went out of their way to help others at a time of need. My son and I bike around the lakes almost daily, and each of our bicycles have had a “technical” difficulty that prevented us from continuing on our path, and in each instance we were far from where our vehicle was parked.  A bicyclist named Al went out of his way to retrieve his tools from his truck and repair the chain on my bike. It has worked perfectly ever since. Thank you so much, Al! Several days ago, my son’s bicycle tube deflated, and a husband and wife turned around and assisted me in walking the bike upright for at least a quarter of a mile to the Winona Visitors Center parking lot. Thank you so much! Finally, I want to thank the first responders and other volunteers who ran the extremely efficient COVID vaccination clinics at the East End Recreation Center; the caring and supportive members of the vaccination team at Winona Health; and especially the young woman who generously traded places with my son and me in line which helped to reduce his stress level. Your kindness is appreciated!
