On April,19 Carla Burton gave a presentation to the Winona Learning Club entitled “Grace Place Full Circle.” Carla shared the almost 30-year history of Grace Place and then spoke about the components of the wide scope of services that Grace Place provides for Southeast Minnesota. After almost 30 years of practice and development Grace Place is able to provide the very best experiences for the folks who need it the most.
She then told the exciting story about Grace House which will open in the fall of 2021. Grace Place purchased the former Dan Corcoran Catholic Worker house in January 2020. Carla showed photos of the beautiful renovation of the house made since then by the vast community involvement of churches, Winona businesses, and many individual volunteers.
Carla Burton is an early childhood educator, nonprofit founder and director, musician, and proud mother. Carla has been working in early childhood development for 40-plus years; her work with children includes classroom music, movement, and learning in community with influence from Montessori principles for an innovative re-frame on traditional education. Carla’s heart for children and families led her to start Grace Place, Inc., in 1992, a nonprofit organization that provides resources and skill development opportunities for families with children from birth to age 5 in Southeast Minnesota. The growth of Grace Place continues; this fall, Grace Place will open the only transitional shelter for women and children in Winona. Carla looks forward to many more years of bringing music and movement to families in Southeast Minnesota and being an active part of her own growing family’s rich and full lives.
