by Tim Leahy, Woodlawn Cemetery superintendent
Back in 1923, four years after the team was founded, the Green Bay Packers football team found themselves on the verge of bankruptcy and looking for a way to create a positive cash flow method to support their team.
So, the organization decided to sell shares of stock for the Green Bay Packers team to the community to keep the lights on the field. To this date the concept continues to be a successful one with over more than 250,000 shares being sold at various times in history. The outpouring of fan support to become a shareholder of this NFL football team has been an impressive one, offering a great opportunity for any football fan to feel a part of that team forever.
Woodlawn Cemetery has not closed their front gates or gone bankrupt but has decided to offer a similar limited-time opportunity for fans and supporters of this beautiful cemetery. Starting June 1, 2021, for every donation of $500 to Woodlawn you will receive a one-of-a-kind Certificate of Contribution naming you as an official supporter and friend of Woodlawn Cemetery to be proudly displayed in your office or home.
All of the money will go into the operations budget to maintain and improve the cemetery grounds. Over the years we have proudly become one of the more beautiful cemeteries in the state of Minnesota. Our fundraising campaign goal is to raise $500,000 by the end of calendar year of 2023.
Similar to the Packer’s organization, all of our official supporters can now claim bragging rights to being a Lifetime Friend of Woodlawn. If you are interested in learning more this opportunity, please contact us at 507-452-6016 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
