Join visual artist Sarah Johnson and poet Marcia Ratliff for a day of creating in nature! The third and final 2021 SHIFT~ salon will take place Sunday, October 24. You are invited on a self-guided stroll in Bluffside Park in Winona through the Stone Circle loop of the Holzinger trails, and there will be art stations with prompts that encourage you to create along the way. Then join Marcia and Sarah online via Facebook Live, as they respond to your artistic creations. This event is open to all ages, and you are welcome to participate solo or bring friends or family. Those unable to attend are invited to engage with the art prompts online, via the SHIFT~ Facebook page starting October 25. The Art Trek will happen rain or shine, but in the event of severe weather, the in-person version will be cancelled no later than 9 a.m. on October 24, and take place virtually on the SHIFT~ Facebook page, www.facebook.com/SHIFT.performance.salons. The in-person event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 24; the Facebook Live event is at 3:15 p.m. Art prompts will be posted on the SHIFT~ Facebook page. The event is free and open to all ages.

“The more we play, the better we get at receiving challenging shifts as gifts that can broaden and transform us mere mortals into wholehearted, fully embodied, connected creatures of the universe,” Johnson said.

“To me, SHIFT~ is about moving outside of the worn-out grooves, jumping off the track, and listening to the creative pulse within the ordinary. It's also a space of connection for artists to find each other, for neighbors to notice each other, for community to weave a little tighter through shared art making,” Ratliff said.

For the in-person event, park at Holzinger Lodge, 925 West Lake Boulevard, at the west end of lot. Walk to the large trail map and look for Bluffside Art Trek signs. The Stone Circle loop trail is to the right, and takes  approximately 15 minutes at a regular walking pace, and around 60 minutes total with art stations. If you are unable to travel along an unpaved path, there will be an art station in the lot. Masks are encouraged when encountering those not in your group, and please respect the social distancing boundaries of others. Hand sanitizer is available at each station.
