The Winona County Historical Society is excited to bring back The Art of Fine Furniture this fall. The 2021 show will highlight new work from 11 studio furniture makers. Mark your calendars for September 11 through October 2, 2021. An opening with most of the artists will be held Saturday, September 11, from 1-3 p.m. Please register by calling 507-454-2723 ext. 0. Walk-ins are welcome, but we cannot guarantee space. Also, watch www.winonahistory.org for COVID-19 updates and safety measures.

TiAnna DeGarmo is this year’s community curator of the show and is a studio furniture maker herself. TiAnna’s journey in wood began as a little girl working alongside her father building homes. She worked in the intensive field of architectural millwork throughout her 20s and 30s, and now owns Furniture by DeGarmo and creates studio furniture in Lanesboro, Minn. TiAnna strives to create designs that are beautiful to behold and pleasurable to handle while being simple, clean, and useful.

Winona was literally built by the lumber industry. Once a more common trade, today the time-honored skills of woodworking have become an art form. Founded in 2013 by local artist and furniture maker, Jamie Schell, The Art of Fine Furniture is an annual exhibit featuring new creations of professional and hobbyist studio furniture makers. Each year a new exhibit invites and excites one’s curiosity to explore the inner mysteries and workings of the pieces and the traditional skills of the craftsmanship that goes into each. Like the other gallery shows at the History Center, most of the furniture exhibited is for sale and is free to explore. The Art of Fine Furniture is proudly sponsored by WNB Financial.
