Our wonderful father, Bob, was born on July 17, 1932, to Frank and Eleanor (Veraguth) Lovas, and left us to mourn his passing on September 16, 2021. He was a graduate of Winona Senior High School, where he met his dear Irish colleen, Dorothy McKennon. They were married in 1951, and had over 50 years together, raising five children in a house full of love, laughter and (sometimes) chaos! After Mom’s passing, Dad found love again when he met June Plessel. They had eight years together before June died of cancer.
Dad began his career in stained glass design in his early 20s. His beautifully painted glass designs adorn churches throughout the midwest. When he wasn’t working on church windows, he could be found in his shop, carving life forms from fallen trees and old barn beams.
This last year has been difficult as we watched our dad, the bedrock of our family, our guidepost, prepare to leave us. Dad’s heart may have been failing, but his love for family never wavered. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy, he especially loved the new babies!
Left to miss him dearly and treasure his memory are his children, Ann Marie (Dave) Kohner, Frank, Jeanine Feiten (Scott Holzworth), and Cindy Averbeck (Tim); 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Joyce Burbach. Dad was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy; son, Rob; brother, Eugene; companion, June; and many family members and friends.
We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to those who helped Dad through his journey. Thank you, Craig Buchholz, for stepping in when Dad needed help around the house and yard; he so enjoyed your company. Thank you to St. Croix Hospice, and especially Deb Snow, for your loving care and compassion.
The family invites you to join us on Saturday, September 25, from noon to 3 p.m. at the American Legion in Alma, Wis., as we honor Dad. There will be medically vulnerable people in attendance, so please wear a mask if you are not vaccinated.
