The Cochrane-Fountain City Pirate runners traveled to Westby, Wis., and competed in a 12-team invitational on August 24. All eligible runners were able to compete in this tune-up event. Typically, participants run five kilometers (3.1 miles), but this first event was shortened to four kilometers (2.5 miles).

Haili Brone came in 44th (20:26), and Kaili Hager rounded out the scoring placing 74th (22:54). There were 97 individuals participating and the Lady Pirates scored 137 points which placed them sixth overall. Low score and meet winner went to Kickapoo-LaFarge who scored 44 points.

Next up were the boys, led by Wesley Pronschinske. Pronschinske covered the course in 13:32 minutes, which was good for the overall individual win.
