Winona County COVID infections were up and down this week, with 124 cases in the past seven days, compared to 131 last week. There were 94 new cases in Trempealeau County this past week, compared to 102 the week before, and 36 in Buffalo County, compared to 34 last week.

Hospitalizations rose notably, with six more Winona County residents hospitalized for COVID this week, including one requiring intensive care. Trempealeau County reported four new hospitalizations as Oct. 6, the latest data available. Buffalo County did not report recent hospitalization data.

“Greater Minnesota hospitals and health systems like mine are undergoing the same stresses that we’re hearing about in the metro,” Winona Health CEO Rachelle Schultz said in a state press conference last week. She added, “We need our communities to continue this fight alongside us.”

“Transmission in schools and among children continues to be an area of concern,” Minnesota Department of Health Commissioner Jan Malcom said.
