Four people sustained injuries in a crash Sunday after a vehicle involved in a pursuit lost control and hit another head-on.
At about 4:30 p.m. on August 15 on State Road 93 and Osseo Road in the Town of Burnside, a Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Office deputy tried to pull over a vehicle near Elk Creek, according to the report. The vehicle fled, resulting in a pursuit. The vehicle allegedly went about 105 miles per hour and drove in the wrong lane during the pursuit. An officer in the city of Independence put spike strips on the road at the entrance to town, according to the report. The vehicle tried to go around the strips and hit another vehicle head-on at high speeds reportedly. Two people in the vehicle that fled were taken by helicopter to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries, and two people in the other vehicle were taken by ambulance to a local hospital for the treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, according to the report.
The driver of the vehicle that fled, a man, will be referred to the county attorney’s office for potential charges related to fleeing and reckless endangerment of safety.
The Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Office was not immediately available for comment.
